Decided to Retest

After 2 days off probiotics in preparation to do another DNA Microbial Stool test I experienced even more severe cramping intestinal pain and nausea. So I decided to email my doc to request another stool test. I really don't need his permission. The clinic receptionist will sell me the test without even notifying him. However, I wanted to tell him that I'm taking the test. So he won't be surprised when the lab send my results in another 3-4 weeks.

Wow, Sue. Is there no rest for you from these challenges? I am so sorry!

Thanks, Heidi. I didn't know you still read my blog. I have spent the past 6 years waiting for one test after another. First for celiac disease, then food allergies, then bacteria, parasite and yeast tests.

I suspect I'm in a medical loop. Like so many people who need drugs to treat the side effects of their drugs, everytime I treat one gut bug, that upsets the microfloral balance. Then another bug can multiply and overwhelm the good bacteria. Even though I take loads of probiotcs during, after treatments and continue daily probiotcs even though I don't have symptoms, I still keep getting intestinal 'dysbiosi' where the bad bugs overwhelm the good bugs.

Right now I don't care how I get them. I just want to eradicate whatever causes this gut pain. When I feel better I may want to speculate more about my gut bug history.

I hope you feel better before those weeks pass and you get the test back. Dealing with pain day in and day out is terrible :(

Thanks, Lisa. I'm pretty accustomed to having some kind of daily gut pain. I can count on one hand the number of pain free days I've had during the past 6 years. However, I pay attention to increasingly intense pain, because that usually means another infection or allergy contamination.

The good news is I know how to control the pain with nondrug treatments, like peppermint tea, probiotics and exercise (aerobic or yoga). I also recognize patterns of pain. My current pattern starts after meals and continues for several hours. So I have a short painfree period until I get so hungry I have to eat again. That certainly dissuades me from eating when I'm not absolutely hungry! LOL
